Abstract:
This presentation provides an overview of current wind load and windstorm design requirements for building structures, with a focus on the adoption of IBC 2024 and ASCE 7-22 provisions. Topics include the development of design wind loads, enclosure classifications, impact resistance requirements, and the introduction of tornado load provisions in ASCE 7-22. The presentation also examines the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Windstorm Inspection Program, including certification requirements, designated catastrophe areas, project applicability, and best practices for successful windstorm certification. Practical examples and lessons learned are provided to help engineers understand compliance requirements and avoid common challenges in high-wind regions.
Bio:
Anthony Dundee, P.E., S.E. is a structural engineer in Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI) Facilities Division and leads the structural team for the Gulf Coast and Southeast Region. He has ten years of structural engineering experience in the analysis, design, and rehabilitation of industrial facilities such as pump stations, water treatment facilities, and wastewater treatment facilities. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston and Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Lamar University.
